ANAHEIM, Calif. -- RHP Rich Harden will start on Saturday against Dan Haren and the Angels with Scott Feldman heading to the bullpen.
Manager Ron Washington said the club asked Harden to dominate at the minor league level and he did that.
"Feldman has more experience in the bullpen of the two and Harden is ready to go, so we needed to make a decision," Washington said. "They are both going to be on this club, so we'll give the ball to Harden and Feldman will help us out in the bullpen."
Washington said the club hasn't thought about the rotation any more than this weekend. It certainly sounds like how well Harden performs will determine if he stays in the rotation. Washington said he wants to see Harden pound the strike zone better in this outing as opposed to what he did earlier in the season and not have the large number of walks he did in previous major league starts in 2010.
"We need him to get us as deep in the game as he possibly can," Washington said. "Just get us in the game and keep us in it."
Before the announcement was made, Harden said he was ready to pitch no matter what happened.
"My side work has been good and I feel good," Harden said. "We'll see what happens."
