Tampa starter Matt Garza, who has a no-hitter this season, looked untouchable against the Rangers through their first go-round in the batting order, striking out five while allowing just a walk to Jorge Cantu and a single to No. 9 hitter Andres Blanco.
The Rangers managed to threaten against Garza in the third when Elvis Andrus followed Blanco's single with one of his own, but with two outs the Rays ace added to his strikeout total against Josh Hamilton on 94 mph heat.
Tampa has dominated against Texas, scoring three times off of Tommy Hunter in the first inning. Vladimir Guerrero, who is starting in right field, could not make a play on a shot by Carl Crawford that resulted in an RBI triple. The Rays would tack on two more runs in the frame and continue to hit Hunter hard.
Rays 3, Rangers 0 after three.
