ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ian Kinsler just didn't squeeze it.
"It just drifted on a little bit and it just kept drifting, drifting on me," Kinsler said of the second-inning popup, "and it went a little bit too far."
Matt Joyce's pop into shallow right field off Texas Rangers starter Tommy Hunter fooled Kinsler, who backpedaled, had his glove above his head to make the catch, but the ball hit the tip of his glove and fell to the ground. The error, Kinsler's second of the seriers, allowed Carlos Pena, who had tripled, to easily score for a 1-0 Rays lead.
Right fielder Nelson Cruz charged in, but Kinsler said Cruz never called him off.
