ARLINGTON -- Elvis Andrus' lead-off double, giving him a hit in all 11 postseason games, set up the Texas Rangers' first-inning run as they took a 1-0 lead over Phil Hughes and the New York Yankees.
Andrus doubled sharply to the left-center field gap. Michael Young then worked Hughes for seven pitches, but struck out swinging. Josh Hamilton singled sharply to left, but Brett Gardner was playing shallow and prevented Andrus from coming home.
That brought up Vladimir Guerrero. In a nice bit of hitting, he took Hughes to the right side for a fielder's choice, bringing home Andrus for the early lead. Nelson Cruz flied out to right to end the first inning.
