Bengie Molina leaning toward retirement
Traded to the Rangers on July 1, Molina was a big part of the the club's run to the World Series, although his bat cooled considerably against the pitching staff he used to catch and mentor. However, the love the Giants have for their former teammate was evidenced when the San Francisco players voted to pay Molina the full amount of their playoff share.
"I am happy for them, of course. They are like my family on the other side," Molina said. "I know how hard they worked to be where they are right now. I'm here in Texas and I wanted to win with Texas, but I am really happy for them."
Molina could also receive a Giants World Series ring.
"If they give it out right now, maybe," Molina said when asked if it will be strange to wear a World Series ring when he played on the losing side. "If I retire, maybe I'll enjoy it."
Molina, 36, has long talked about this being his final season. After the Game 5 loss, Molina, a pending free agent, said retirement is beckoning.
"Right now it is probably closer to no playing than yes," Molina said. "I don't want to decide right now and then something happens later on and I come back. I just want to spend time with family right now; my mom and my wife and my kids. So I'll spend some time and I'll make a decision."
