Rangers RHP Eric Hurley was named the pitcher of the week in the Arizona Fall League. Here's part of the official release from the league:

Hurley, 23, who returned to the mound in the Fall League for the first time since 2008 after losing the 2009–10 seasons to rotator cuff surgery, hurled five scoreless innings last week, allowing just three hits.

The Sikeston, Missouri native ranks among the Fall League leaders in numerous pitching categories, including ERA (sixth/2.29) and opponent batting average (fifth/.197). For the Fall League season, Hurley’s line reads 2–0, 2.29 ERA, 5 starts, 19.2 innings pitched, 5 earned runs, 13 hits, 8 walks and 11 strikeouts.

A first-round (30th overall) draft choice of the Rangers in 2004 out of Wolfson (FL) High School, the 6–4, 195-pound Hurley’s five-year (2004–08) minor-league statistics prior to his injury include a 34–30 composite record and 3.97 ERA in 108 games (101 starts). He also made his major-league debut for the Rangers in 2008, posting a 1–2 record and 5.47 ERA in five games (all starts).

Wouldn't it be encouraging if Hurley could end up at spring training ready to add to the club's pitching depth?

Reports are that he's throwing between 90 and 93 mph with his fastball and that he's feeling good. The Rangers expect Hurley to be fully ready to participate in spring training when pitchers and catchers report in mid February.
