One catcher off the market?

John Buck was a guy we mentioned the last few weeks as a possible target for the Rangers at catcher. But reports have surfaced that he's close to a three-year, $18 million deal with the Florida Marlins.

I like Buck, who made the All-Star team in 2010 and hit .281 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs for the Blue Jays.

But if the price is three years at an average of $6 million, I think I'd keep looking for more options. The Rangers could still consider Victor Martinez, who could even play some DH and first base for the club. But there are other names too. Former Rangers Gerald Laird and Rod Barajas are out there. So is A.J. Pierzynski and Yorvit Torrealba and Ramon Hernandez. No, none of them jump out at you. But there are some options. We'll see what the Rangers do in the catching market (and I still think they should bring Matt Treanor back as a backup).
