The Rangers agreed to terms Friday with free-agent right-handed pitcher Barret Loux, the sixth overall selection in the 2010 draft, on a $312,000 deal.
Loux, 21, was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks but did not sign before the Aug. 16 deadline. Commissioner Bud Selig ruled that Loux would become a free agent on Sept. 1.
The Diamondbacks were reluctant to sign Loux because of concerns the team had about the pitcher's health.
The 6-5 native of Houston has been attending classes and training at Texas A&M, where he had played since 2008.
