What is the market for Vladimir Guerrero?

ESPN.com's Buster Olney talks about Vladimir Guerrero on his video blog today.

Guerrero is still looking for a home in 2010. He came into the offseason wanting a multi-year deal and the Rangers weren't ready to do that, so they told Guerrero to check out the market. After Texas signed Adrian Beltre, they told Guerrero's representatives they weren't interested.

Could that change enough to lure Guerrero to Arlington? Maybe. If Guerrero decides he can't get a full-time DH spot somewhere else and is willing to be a veteran bat off the bench, the possibility grows. As Olney points out, plenty of AL teams have figured out their DH spots and Guerrero's market isn't a great one.

Guerrero was a good fit in the Rangers' clubhouse and showed he still has some hits in that bat. He can't play in the field, though, so that hurts his overall value a bit. I'd sure be interested in him as a veteran right-handed bat off the bench that could DH against tough lefties if needed (and maybe Michael Young shifts to first base and Mitch Moreland sits in those situations).

I asked GM Jon Daniels last week about Guerrero and he said only that the club hadn't "closed any doors." I'd sure like to see Guerrero return if it's possible. A lot can still happen between now and the start of spring training in the middle of next month.
