Twins to honor Blyleven before Texas game

The Twins will retire Hall of Famer (he was just elected) Bert Blyleven's No. 28 jersey on July 16 before they face the Texas Rangers.

It's fitting that the Rangers are the opponent since Blyleven did pitch for Texas in 1976-77. He was traded to the Rangers in May 1976 and he ended up going 23-23 with a 2.74 ERA in Texas. That mark included a no-hitter against the California Angels on Sept. 22, 1977. It was the second no-hitter in franchise history at the time.

The Twins do like to hold these ceremonies with the Rangers in town. Last season, the Twins held a big 50-year celebration weekend during a Rangers series. Manager Ron Washington even played in a Legends game at Target Field and pulled a hamstring (he also had two singles).

Anyway, it should be a nice day and it's fitting the Rangers are going to be there.
