The Rangers agreed to terms with catcher-first baseman Mike Napoli on a one-year, $5.8 million deal on Saturday, avoiding an arbitration hearing.

When Napoli was traded from Toronto (a few days after he was sent to the Blue Jays from the Angels), his exchanged figures went with him. The Angels had offered $5.3 million while he wanted $6.1 million. The Rangers were willing to give Napoli a little more than the exact middle point, no doubt helping get a deal done.

With Napoli signed, that leaves Josh Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP, as the only remaining arbitration-eligible player that isn't signed. A hearing has been set for Valentine's Day, but both sides continue to talk with the hopes of avoiding that. On Jan. 21, Hamilton said he was bracing himself for a hearing.

"Right now I'm counting on it," Hamilton said then. "There's still a lot of time between now and then."

The two sides were $3.3 million apart when they exchanged figures a few weeks ago. So stay tuned.
