SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A few notes from this morning, including some comments from manager Ron Washington.
* The manager was impressed with Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Neftali Feliz from Monday's throwing sessions. "I like the way Nefi threw his off-speed stuff and kept the ball down in the strike zone," Washington said.
* Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba continues to learn the tendencies of his pitching staff and work with guys on a daily basis. He said the two pitchers that stuck out to him on Monday were Tommy Hunter and Pedro Strop. He liked Strop's command and felt like he has the stuff to be very good.
* The club had a security meeting on Tuesday to go over a few things, including being aware of all the technology and social media stuff out there.
* Chris Davis is working as a third baseman in camp as he tries to find a consistent swing. Washington said Davis has already spent a lot of time with hitting coach Thad Bosley. "He has to show he can hit," Washington said. "That's something Chris has to find within himself. He's working hard at it." Davis said he was pleased with how he performed in Winter ball, where he played mostly first base. He wants to continue to improve at third base while focusing on his swing.
"I"m going to work hard and get better," Davis said. "Whenyou play more, you get into a rhythm and I was able to do that. I want to keep learning."
