PEORIA, Ariz. -- Catcher Yorvit Torrealba said he woke up with a stiff back, hoped to stretch it out and play in today's game against the Seattle Mariners, but ultimately decided sitting out was the more prudent approach.
Torrealba is not scheduled to play in Wednesday's game and he said he can't be sure if he'll be ready for Thursday's split-squad games. Torrealba figured to catch the game in which Neftali Feliz makes his spring debut. Lefty Derek Holland is also expected to pitch in one of the games.
He said trainers think it might be a tight muscle, but he doesn't believe it to be anything serious. Taylor Teagarden drew the start, his first action of the spring.
"I thought hopefully I'd be able to play, but I figured it is better to take a couple of days off," Torrealba said. "There's no need to be a hero on March 1."
