SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Adrian Beltre will be sidelined longer than the 10 to 14 days the club initially announced a week ago, assistant GM Thad Levin said Thursday morning. The Grade I calf strain is improving, Beltre said, but he and the club are moving cautiously as to avoid a second flare-up.

Beltre injured the calf prior to spring training and tweaked it early into camp. He and the club still maintain that Opening Day is not in jeopardy.

“It’s doing better, feeling a lot better,” Beltre said. “We start increasing little by little more exercise. I am able to do more things with no pain. Probably in the next couple of days if I get cleared by the training staff, I’ll start taking ground balls and see how it goes and take it little by little.”

In other injury news:

*Pitcher Brandon Webb (shoulder) is scheduled for a third bullpen session in five days. He threw 28 pitches on Sunday, 46 on Tuesday and could increase that number today. There remains no timetable when he will be able to make an appearance in a spring game.

*Pitcher Eric Hurley (hamstring) is scheduled to pitch today in the split-squad game against Cleveland at Surprise.

*Catcher Yorvit Torrealba said Thursday that his stiff back is feeling better, but he is unsure if he will play in today's game against the Indians. He is slated to catch Neftali Feliz in his spring debut. Manager Ron Washington said Wednesday that if Torrealba can't play, he'll give young catcher Jose Felix the start to catch Feliz.
