SURPRISE, Ariz. -- With Neftali Feliz fascination taking over the ballpark today, the guy scheduled to pitch last in the split-squad game against Cleveland should be just as intriguing to watch.

Mark Lowe, acquired by the Rangers last season in the Cliff Lee trade, but was injured and unable to pitch until having a forgettable World Series, wants the closer job if it becomes available.

"It would be awesome," the hard-throwing right-hander said. "Every reliever would love to do that. I've done it a few times and it's a blast."

Lowe has four saves over five seasons, which is two more saves than Alexi Ogando and Darren O'Day have combined. They're two would-be candidates for the closer job or could be part of a closer committee.

Lowe said he doesn't take the mound thinking about the closer role exclusively. There's no guarantee that Feliz, who saved a rookie-record 40 games last season, will join the starting rotation.

"If I did that, I would almost be disappointed if it didn't happen," Lowe said. "And as far as I'm concerned there is no disappointment when you're wearing a big-league jersey. All I can do is go out and do my best."
