Julio Borbon talks reading and reacting
Milton Bradley's fly ball to center froze Borbon initially and he sprinted straight toward it, diving full out to make a great catch and preserve a one-run lead.
"It was a tough read with the wind," Borbon said. "It was one of those where I had to go for it especially a guy like Bradley who drives the ball well. You don't want to take any false steps and go in and have it burn you. So I put on the brakes early and often and took off and ran all the way in. The ball kept tailing and going away from me. I thought at first I thought I was going to catch it running, but I had to dive for it. I decided to go for it."
Borbon said because of the way the ball was hit, he froze before making a decision on where to go.
"You don't want to commit too early and go back on it and have it drop in front of you," Borbon said. "So I immediately froze and as soon as I realized it was hit in, you just go all-in for it."
Borbon noted that the wind has been blowing particularly hard this homestand and that it takes some getting used to in terms of how the ball reacts to it.
Manager Ron Washington talked before the game about how good his club's defense was and how it was being overshadowed by the offense. As if on cue, that defensive was on display on Tuesday, helping the Rangers to one of those one-run wins that Washington likes so much.
"I thought he did a good job," Washington said. "He was playing really aggressive out there. It's time to go now. It's not spring training. I think you can all see the difference."
