ARLINGTON, Texas -- Right-hander Tommy Hunter(groin) said he is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Hunter, on the DL with a groin injury, hasn't pitched on a mound in nearly three weeks.

"I feel pretty good," Hunter said. "We'll see what happens."

Hunter said he's still two weeks away from getting back into the swing of things, but if things go well Tuesday, he might get two minor league stints depending on where the teams are.

* Ron Washington said he's not concerned about the top of the order. Leadoff man Ian Kinsleris hitting .048 the last seven games and is hitless in his last 14 at-bats. No. 2 hitter Elvis Andrus is hitting .130 the last seven games and is 2-for-16 the last four games. Against Monday's starter Ervin Santana, Andrus is hitting .350. Andrus said it's too early to get worried because it's a long season.

"I know what kind of hitter he is," Andrus said of Kinsler. "Right now wer'e in the same slump. We're working hard and it's nothing to worry about and we just have to make adjustments. I'm seeing good pitches, but sometimes I'm a little too patient. But I see those pitches on film and they're a little outside and they call strikes."

* RHP Colby Lewisis scheduled to start Tuesday's game vs. the Angels. Lewis was taken off the paternity leave list Monday. Lewis is 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA in two starts. In his last start, April 9 at Baltimore, Lewis allowed four earned runs on six hits in six innings of work. It was that start that raised a question about Lewis' velocity.

When asked is he going through a dead arm phase Lewis said no.

"I feel great," Lewis said. "My stuff is there. I'm not worried about anything."

* With the Rangers getting home late from New York this morning, there was not batting practice or infield work, at least outside. The Rangers did their work in the indoor cages. The Rangers did some stretching in the outfield prior to the game, but that was the extent of it.

* Kinsler got a haircut while in New York and it was a little shorter than usual. He joked it was a language issue due to the 2-3 inches taken off the back and top. ... Washington said he missed the second step of the dugout steps as he tried to save first base coach Gary Pettis from getting thrown out in Sunday night's game vs. the Yankees. Washington said the first-base umpire, Adrian Johnson, saw him trying to get out of the dugout to prevent the ejection but did it anyway. ... While it's only April, the Rangers have held at least a share of he AL West lead all season. ... OF Josh Hamiltonwasn't wearing a sling on his broken right arm in the clubhouse. He gave Kinsler a fist bump with his right hand as he greeted him before the game.
