Michael Young's start no surprise to Wash

ARLINGTON, Texas -- It didn't take long for Michael Young to adapt to the DH/super utility role. Ron Washington is hardly surprised.

"The guy is a hitter," Washington said before today's series finale against Kansas City. "I think the opportunities he gets in the field is helping him and the guy wants to win."

Young comes into the day hitting .366, third in the American League. He picked up his team-best ninth multi-hit game Saturday night and is one a 13-game hitting streak. Young's average has risen from .241 during the 23-for-53 (.434) tear.

"There are a lot of things I still want to work on," Young said. "I definitely don't feel satisfied."

Young is in the top 10 in the AL in multi-hit games (tied for first), hits (second with 30), double (third with nine) and extra-base hits (tied for ninth with 10). Last season's third baseman has played in all 20 games so far, with seven starts in the field.

"I don't think anybody in Texas is seeing Michael do anything he hasn't done before," Washington said.
