ARLINGTON, Texas -- Brandon Webb threw two innings in an extended spring game this morning in Peoria, Ariz., and had his command, though not particularly high velocity, according to ESPN.com's Jason Grey (who will have more on the outing on ESPN.com Tuesday).

Grey said Webb needed just 16 pitches to get through two clean innings and had some sink on his sinker and good command. Grey said the highest Webb hit on the radar gun was 84 miles per hour.

Webb said via text that "the velocity needs about two to four more clicks," but that he was pleased with how he felt and the results.

Webb was able to keep his command despite taking breaks between innings, something he wanted to improve upon after needing some extra time to get loose before really finding his command during some recent bullpen sessions.

He acknowledged to Grey that he needs to get his velocity up some more, but that he believes that will happen as he continues to pitch more innings, get into a routine and fine-tune his mechanics.

Webb said the plan is to pitch every five days, meaning he'd throw again Saturday. He's scheduled to have a bullpen session Wednesday.

The Rangers have said all along that they will remain conservative with Webb, so he's going to remain in Arizona for a few outings until the club and Webb are comfortable he can go pitch in minor league games.

I'll link to Grey's full report here on the blog on Tuesday.
