Darren O'Day says he's headed to DL

Rangers reliever Darren O'Day wrote on his Facebook fan page today that he's headed to the disabled list. Club officials would only say that he's going to see a specialist today and that they'd likely have more information before tonight's game with the Blue Jays.

From O'Day's facebook page:

"Headed to the DL for a torn labrum in my left hip. Beyond that, I dont [sic] know much. Hopefully recovery will be quick, and I'll be back on the mound in no time."

Ryan Tucker would be the leading candidate to replace O'Day, though others could factor into the discussion like Yoshinori Tateyama, who is already on the 40-man roster. Tucker was picked up off waivers from Florida in October and the club designated Rich Harden for assignment to make room for him. Tucker is now not on the 40-man roster, so if he ends up taking O'Day's place a move would be made to get him on the 40-man roster.

O'Day pitched well in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 10-3 loss to Toronto, giving up just one hit (a seeing-eye grounder to the left side) and getting a couple of ground ball outs and a strikeout. But even after the game, he seemed uncertain about his hip.

"It was good to throw strikes and get ahead in the count," O'Day said Tuesday. "We're still working through it [the hip issues]. We'll see what happens. We'll see how it responds. It feels fine now, but I don't know. But to get out there, throw strikes and get outs was important."

We should have more information later today once he sees the specialist and the club has a chance to figure out what they want to do.
