ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have their closer back.

Right-handed reliever Neftali Feliz was activated from the disabled list in time for Friday's game with the New York Yankees. He was placed on the DL with right shoulder inflammation on April 23, retroactive to April 21. The club has optioned catcher Taylor Teagarden to Triple-A Round Rock.

Feliz pitched an inning in a rehab game for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday and said his shoulder feels fine.

"I'm ready," Feliz said through a translator. "Everything is normal and I'm good to go."

Feliz, 22, was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2010. He was stretched out to be a starter in spring training, but because of the club's uncertain back end of the bullpen he was moved back to the closer spot before the season started. He has five saves (in five opportunities) and a 1.08 ERA and no record with six strikeouts and five walks in 8 1/3 innings pitched.

His last save came in Yankee Stadium on April 15. He gave up a run in the ninth inning, ending his regular-season scoring streak at 22 2/3 innings. He last pitched in a big league game on April 20, allowing no runs on three walks in one inning of work against the Los Angeles Angels.

Feliz had 40 saves in 2010, breaking the rookie record. He had a 1.23 ERA in seven playoff games and struck out Alex Rodriguez for the final out of the ALCS in Game 6 in Arlington, sending the Rangers to the franchise's first World Series.
