Potential roster moves for Rangers

When the Rangers left Philadelphia they were a happy team on a couple of fronts.

1. Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz were expected to come off the disabled list today.
2. The starting pitching continues to do well.
3. The team ended a three-game losing streak with Sunday's 2-0 win over the Phillies.

The Rangers, however, have some roster moves to make today to clear the path for Hamilton and Cruz.

Craig Gentry, Chris Davis, Taylor Teagarden and Endy Chavez are possible candidates to get knocked off the big league roster.

Manager Ron Washington likes to have three catchers, but is open to possibly losing Teagarden.

Chavez, after a slow start has come on strong of late, .533 average on this seven-game road trip, but he’s hampered by a hamstring strain the last three days. He got a pinch hit double on Friday night but didn't play the last two days. He should be fine, and when he does return, Washington most likely will use him again, at least in the leadoff spot.

Gentry has started in the last seven games in center field and he’s reached base in six of the last seven games. He drove in the Rangers' second run of Sunday's game at Philadelphia with a sacrifice bunt.

Davis, who didn’t play Sunday, homered on Thursday night in his first career start as the cleanup hitter.

Washington wouldn't speculate as to who gets set down with reporters because he wanted to speak with the players first.
