ARLINGTON, Texas -- After a much-deserved day off, the Texas Rangers play the first of a three-game set with the Kansas City Royals (7:05 p.m. on ESPN 103.3 FM/TXA-21) at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Colby Lewis is set to take the mound for the Rangers against Royals right-hander Nathan Adcock.
Colby Lewis (4-5, 3.69 ERA): Working on five days rest for his 10th start this season, Lewis looks to go over the .500 mark at home where is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts this season. His last appearance was at Philadelphia in a 2-0 loss to the Phillies. Lewis went 6 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs but managing six strikeouts. Lewis hasn’t faced the Royals since 2003, but in three career games -- two starts -- he’s 1-1 with a 9.64 ERA.
Nate Adcock (1-0, 1.66 ERA): Making his second career start, Adcock has made eight relief appearances this season. His first start was May 21 in a 3-0 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals. Adcock held the Cardinals scoreless in five innings of work, allowing only three hits and striking out four batters. The rookie picked up his only win April 30 against the Minnesota Twins, pitching a perfect seventh inning in route to an 11-2 victory.
Hitters: Lewis has not given up a hit to a batter on the Royals roster, in part because he’s only faced shortstop Alcides Escobar. The lone batter to see a pitch from Lewis is 0-for-1…Rangers hitter are 3-for-9 against Adcock is 3-for-9. Ian Kinsler is 1-for-2 against the right-hander while Adrian Beltre and Mitch Moreland have homered in their only at-bats against Adcock.
