Rehabbing pitchers jockey for position
In two-thirds of an inning, Webb was charged with six hits, four runs and a walk.
“My arm feels good and I feel like the velocity is coming around, 85 to 87 [mph] and it goes up as the game goes along,’’ said Webb, who was back at Rangers Ballpark on Monday.
“I didn’t think there was really a hard-hit ball. Four of the hits were ground balls through the hole and another was a little blooper over second. Nothing was hit at us.’’
He was removed after 36 pitches and threw an additional 20 in the bullpen.
“I didn’t get the work that I needed, but I’ll be back in Corpus throwing 60 to 65 pitches on Friday,’’ he said.
Webb, the 2006 Cy Young Award winner with Arizona, pitched in a game for the first time in two years last month with a rehab appearance for Frisco. He is attempting a comeback after undergoing shoulder surgery on his pitching arm on Aug. 3, 2009.
*Rangers manager Ron Washington said Scott Feldman appears to be making more rehab progress than Tommy Hunter.
Feldman, coming off right knee surgery, is scheduled to make his third rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday at New Orleans.
Hunter, recovering from a right groin strain, was the winning pitcher for Round Rock against Omaha on Sunday. Hunter threw 85 pitches in six innings and allowed 10 hits and four runs. He struck out two with no walks.
*Darren O’Day, sidelined by a partial tear of the labrum/left hip, is scheduled to start and pitch one inning for Frisco tonight against Midland. Provided he passes that test, he’ll join Round Rock on rehab Wednesday.
*Eric Hurley, rehabbing with Round Rock, is the scheduled starter tonight against Omaha. Hurley is recovering from a concussion and was cleared by Major League Baseball after all tests came back fine.
