Players plan to golf, fish, eat fried food
Those not involved with the All-Star festivities in Phoenix are planning to take some time off and unwind away from baseball. It’s the only time players can take a few days and relax during a gruesome 162-game season. Here’s what some Rangers have planned to do during their break:
Pitcher Derek Holland: "I'm going to stay in Dallas. I'll do a bullpen session and I'm going to play golf. It will be my first time to play golf in the Dallas area. Golf helps clear my mind. I'll watch the All-Star Game, too.”
Second baseman Ian Kinsler: “I’m going to the lake, Lake Texoma. I’ll do some fishing, do some jet skies and keep on the water. I’ll definitely watch the All-Star Game with all the guys we’ve got in the game. But I won’t have a baseball or a bat in my hand for three days.’’
Shortstop Elvis Andrus: “I can’t wait for these three days, take a rest for my body, my mind a little bit and just enjoy my time off. … For sure just lay in the pool and just have fun.”
Pitcher Matt Harrison: “I’m going home to North Carolina. There’s a favorite place I like to eat, a fried food place, and I’ll probably go there a couple of times. I plan to stay inside most of the time, but I’ll throw a little. Mainly, I’ll just relax.’’
Hanging on to their first-place lead in the American League West by a game over the LA Angels, the Rangers will be back on the day-to-day grind Thursday at Seattle to start a seven-game road trip against divisional opponents. The Rangers will play four games with the Mariners, then a crucial three-game set versus the Angels in Anaheim.
