Rangers manager Ron Washington answered reports that pitcher Scott Feldman was placed on outright waivers Wednesday by saying that he's comfortable with his staff as presently constituted.
"There's an old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it," Washington told 103.3 FM's Ben and Skin Show. "We decided that we would stay with [Derek] Holland in the rotation for now. We want to make sure that we have someone stretched out in case something happens."
If Feldman is placed on waivers and not claimed, the Rangers can remove him from the 40-man roster and send him to the minors.
Washington said he hopes Feldman has an opportunity to make his way to the Rangers, but for the moment this was the move the club had to make.
"All five starters are still strong, [and] the bullpen is getting it together," Washington said. "We're going to be making moves here pretty soon, and Scott Feldman will be a part of those moves when we're able to sort some things a little more."
Feldman, 28, is coming back from microfracture surgery on his right knee.
