Sunday night games help beat heat

Some of you have asked via email or Twitter why the Rangers can play at night despite not being on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

The Rangers asked for a waiver for five Sunday games to be at night. They prefer night games with the summer heat, and it also gives them a shot at a bigger crowd. It can be a difference of around 10,000 fans at night on a summer Sunday as opposed to the day.

The league granted the Rangers some of the waivers they wanted. They were for games against teams that aren't in top markets (Florida, Toronto and Cleveland). MLB wants to protect the rights-holder, so any games against New York or Boston would not be on Sunday night if ESPN was showing another game.
