ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers will leave outfielder Craig Gentry at Triple-A Round Rock for two more days in order to delay a decision to cut down the bullpen by one.

Gentry was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list July 28 and Sunday night he completed what was supposed to be a three-day rehab assignment. However, with pitcher Scott Feldman still nursing a blister and unavailable, Rangers manager Ron Washington wants to keep his bullpen fully stocked with eight arms (including Feldman, who does not appear to be a case for the DL).

Washington will ship out a position player Tuesday when starting pitcher Alexi Ogando takes the mound after going home to the Dominican Republic on paternity leave and then make the cut in the bullpen upon Gentry's return on Wednesday.

Third catcher Taylor Teagarden, who was recalled when Gentry went on the DL, could receive the bad news Tuesday, although Washington did not reveal his intentions. The Rangers also have two utility infielders, Andres Blanco and Omar Quintanilla, on the active roster.

While Washington has noted that Teagarden affords him more flexibility (and insurance) to play Yorvit Torrealba and Mike Napoli in the lineup together -- such as for tonight's game against Seattle with Napoli catching and Torrealba as the designated hitter -- he said Teagarden's presence on the active roster is not mandatory.

* The Rangers promoted LHP Kevin Matthews, the club's first-round selection in the 2011 June draft, to Spokane and is scheduled to start Tuesday night vs. Yakima. He went 1-0, with a 1.50 ERA in seven games (three starts) in AZL League.
