Matchup: C.J. Wilson vs. Erik Bedard

The first game of the Rangers-Red Sox series features LHP C.J. Wilson and LHP Erik Bedard. BTW, check out some of our previous blog posts from today for a preview) and join us for in-game chats all week. Here's a quick look at the matchup:

Wilson (12-5, 3.20 ERA): He's 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 16 games (four starts) in his career against Boston. All four of those starts have been the past two seasons and he's 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA with no homers allowed, 10 walks and 26 strikeouts. The Red Sox have hit just .183 off him. ... The lefty ranks among the AL leaders in wins (T-6, 12), strikeouts (6th, 159), winning percentage (T-5, .706) and innings (10th, 174 1/3). ... His ERA of 3.20 is 12th in the league. ... Wilson is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA in three starts in August and 8-2 with a 3.06 ERA in his last 16 starts. ... Wilson got the win on Wednesday at Anaheim, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits in seven innings. ... Wilson did not face a left-handed batter in the win. Lefties are hitting .261 off him, while righties are batting just .228. ... His only start against Boston in 2011 was Opening Day in Arlington, when he allowed four runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Rangers' victory.

Bedard (4-8, 3.44 ERA): His last win was July 15 as a member of the Mariners, when he beat the Angels. ... In three starts with the Red Sox, Bedard is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA. ... Bedard's last start came against the Rays on Aug. 16. He gave up three runs, but just one earned, on seven hits in six innings with six strikeouts and no walks. ... Bedard made two starts against the Rangers earlier this season (with Seattle) and was 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA with seven runs, five earned, in 12 innings. The Rangers have hit just .140 against Bedard.

Hitters: Ian Kinsler is 8-for-24 against Bedard. ... Nelson Cruz is 4-for-13 with two homers and three RBIs. ... David Murphy is 1-for-8 and Michael Young is 6-for-33 off Bedard. ... David Ortiz is just 1-for-13 with five strikeouts against Wilson. ... Marco Scutaro is 2-for-18. ... Dustin Pedroia is 3-for-8 with an RBI.
