Lots of talk this morning on the Ben & Skin Show on 103.3 FM ESPN about Lance Berkman, a player high on the Rangers' wish list depending on Nelson Cruz's condition and the club's internal options. The club wants to wait to see exactly what the status is of Cruz's strained left hamstring before they make any firm decisions.

C.J. Wilson calls in to talk about the AL West race and the possibility of bringing Lance Berkman to Texas.

"More than likely, if we make any moves, they’ll be from inside the organization," general manager Jon Daniels said.

But there's little doubt that Berkman, hitting .289 with 30 homers and 81 RBIs for St. Louis this season, would be a nice addition down the stretch. For him to be eligible for the postseason roster, he'd need to be on the club by Thursday.

So what about the comments he made this offseason (Berkman said he believed the Rangers would be "average" without Cliff Lee among other things)? He reached out to C.J. Wilson, who didn't care for the comments, at the All-Star break and admitted that he was wrong with a handwritten note in Wilson's locker at the All-Star Game.

"You have to think about the needs of the team and the needs of the other teams that would potentially going after him as well," Wilson said Monday. "It'd be great for us to get him because the Angels could use him a lot. ... Lance Berkman is a good player. He can play first base. He can play the outfield."
