SEATTLE -- The Rangers got a complete effort on Sunday: good starting pitching, solid relief, nice defense and timely hitting. Matt Harrison outdueled Mariners ace and 2010 Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez in the 3-0 win. The Angels won to stay 4.5 back, but the magic number is reduced to 6. Some quick thoughts (more to come from the clubhouse):

* That's the 19th shutout of the season for the Rangers, the most in the league as they continue to add to the club record.

* Harrison was outstanding, showing off an impressive breaking ball that kept the Mariners' hitters from doing much. He gave up just six hits and had nine strikeouts. Harrison was able to pitch deep into the game, something he stressed he wanted to do after lasting just five innings in his last start.

* Harrison, who has focused on doing a better job against lefties, was solid against them Sunday. His breaking ball helped make that happen. It had great movement. Lefties were 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts versus Harrison. That's much better than his season numbers. Coming into the game, lefties were hitting .302 against Harrison. The only hit was an infield single by Ichiro Suzuki in the seventh.

* Harrison induced his 30th double play to help him get out of a first-inning jam. That ties him with C.J. Wilson for the club record. Wilson also has 30 this season.

* Harrison had nine strikeouts, a career-high. He had eight strikeouts three times before Friday. He threw 116 pitches (one shy of his career-high) in 6 2/3 innings.

* Adrian Beltre put the first two runs of the game on the board with a home run to left-center in the fourth inning. Beltre smiled and as he rounded third base said something to Hernandez (in good fun, of course). He now has seven homers and 13 RBIs in his last nine games, with homers in six of his last eight games.

* Josh Hamilton made one of the best catches of the year for the Rangers, reaching over the fence in left to take a home run away from Mike Carp in the eighth inning. Hamilton caught it and fell over before hopping up and running to the dugout. He was greeted by plenty of high-5s from teammates.

* It was a strange turn of events in the top of the third. Ian Kinsler turned on a Felix Hernandez pitch and drilled it to left field and into the King's Court. It was called a home run. But the fans booed and the Mariners players immediately argued about it. Eric Wedge came out and asked for a review. Replays showed the ball was clearly foul. Even Kinsler seemed to know it. A few pitches later, Kinsler grounded into a double play to end the inning.

* Kinsler scored his 113th run of the season, second-most in the AL, on a double by Elvis Andrus. The ball went down the left-field line and hit off the wall where it comes out slightly. That allowed Kinsler to score from first.

* Andrus has a 12-game hitting streak. He was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI on Sunday. During the streak, Andrus is 18-for-50 with six doubles, a HR, 9 RBIs, 11 runs, five walks and a stolen base.

* With the bases loaded and two outs, manager Ron Washington went with the righty Koji Uehara in the seventh. Uehara was able to strike out Luis Rodriguez to end the Mariners' biggest threat of the day.

* Don't forget about David Murphy's speed. He beat out two infield singles on Sunday.

* Mike Adams pitched a perfect eighth with two strikeouts.

* Neftali Feliz got his 28th save and his second in the last two days. The Mariners went down 1-2-3 against him and are now 0-for-45 versus Feliz in his career.
