OAKLAND, Calif. -- Rangers manager Ron Washington said he didn't think about walking pinch-hitter Scott Sizemore with runners at second and third in the seventh inning to try to set up the double play.

Texas played the infield back, conceding the tying run on a ground ball. Sizemore's grounder to second allowed David DeJesus to score.

"If the infield is at double-play depth or in, that ball gets through," Washington said about the ground ball that Sizemore hit to second to score the run. "He hit that ball pretty good and hit it right where Kinsler is standing. If he's more up the middle at double-play depth, that gets through."

The bottom line: Washington was willing to concede the run on a ground ball and do what he could to guard against the A's taking the lead because he felt his offense could scratch out another run.

Darren Oliver was in the game at that point after starter Colby Lewis had put two runners on with one out. After Oliver gave up the ground ball, Koji Uehara got the final out of the inning by getting Kurt Suzuki to fly out to right.

Oakland came back in the eighth off Mike Adams and took the lead when Jemile Weeks doubled and Coco Crisp singled him home.

"He put a good swing on it and he is a pretty good little hitter," Adams said aobut Weeks. "He took a good swing and made good contact."

The loss keeps the Rangers magic number at 3. If the Angels win tonight, they'll be four games back in the AL West with six games left and the earliest the Rangers could clinch would be Saturday. If the Angels lose, the number drops to 2 and the Rangers could clinch Friday with a win and an Angels loss.
