2011 timeline: June
Timeline: Third month of the season (June)
Draft: June 6 – Texas selects high school lefty Kevin Matthews with its first pick (33rd overall) in the MLB Draft and outfielder Zach Cone (37th overall) a few selections later. Both sign quickly.
Hitting coach replaced: June 8 – Thad Bosley is dismissed as hitting coach. Despite an offense that was scoring the second-most runs in the AL at the time, communication issues forced the change. Scott Coolbaugh is promoted from Triple-A Round Rock.
Catcher injured: June 12 – Mike Napoli goes on the DL with a strained left oblique muscle.
Other June moments:
June 5: A 2-0 victory at Cleveland – the second straight shutout – is the fifth straight win for the Rangers. They have three shutouts and allow six runs in that span.
June 12: Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano takes a no-hitter into the eighth inning before Adrian Beltre breaks it up in a 6-1 loss. It’s the Rangers’ fifth loss in their last seven games.
June 16: The Rangers lose, 3-2, in 12 innings at Yankee Stadium and are swept by New York. It is the eighth loss in the last 10.
June 19: Texas takes two of three in Atlanta to salvage something on a 3-7 road trip. Alexi Ogando and Yorvit Torrealba need IVs thanks to the humidity in Atlanta.
June 23: Josh Hamilton’s struggles in the day time are news as he says his blue eyes are hurting his ability to pick up the ball. A local optometrist supports Hamilton’s assertion and the slugger starts looking at eye drops and other options to help during the day.
June 24: Dirk Nowitzki throws out the first pitch as the NBA star celebrates the Mavericks’ NBA title.
June 30: A 7-0 loss to the Astros means the Rangers go 14-13 in June, yet still have a one-game lead in the division.
