ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was named Budweiser AL player of the month for September.
He hit .379 (36-for-95) with four doubles, 12 homers, 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored in 23 games in September. It's his second career player of the month honor. He also did it in September of 2004, as he helped the Dodgers make the postseason. That was Beltre's last playoff appearance.
Beltre led the majors in homers and slugging percentage (.800) for the month and was tied for fourth in the AL in runs scored and fifth in hits and batting average. Beltre's top game was 4-for-5 with a double, two homers, two runs scored and three RBIs in an 8-1 win over the A's on Sept. 11.
Beltre beat out two of his teammates, thanks to a huge Rangers September. Ian Kinsler (.337, 2 2B, 1 3B, 11 HR, .726 SLG) and Mike Napoli (.418, 5 2B, 6 HR, 16 RBI, .506 OBP) received votes. So did Detroit's Miguel Cabrera and Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury.
