ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers play-by-play broadcaster Eric Nadel was named one of the 10 finalists for the 2012 Ford C. Frick Award, given annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

A group of 20 members vote from that list to determine the winner. Nadel was also a finalist last year.

"It's a tremendous honor to be thought of in the same class as those who have won, and the others on the 2011 ballot," Nadel said. "I consider myself really lucky to have this job, and am grateful for the chance to have fun at the ballpark and get paid for it. To get some confirmation that I'm doing a good job is extremely rewarding."

Nadel has spent the last 33 seasons with the Rangers -- the longest tenure of any announcer in franchise history. Nadel has been the lead voice for 17 of those years. This was his first season on ESPN 103.3 FM, the flagship station for the Rangers ESPN Radio Network.

Nadel, 60, has the second-longest current tenure of any broadcaster with one team in the American League to Kansas City's Denny Matthews (43 years). Nadel joined the Rangers in 1979 and called games on TV and radio for the first three seasons. He then joined Mark Holtz and was his partner for 13 years in the booth. He called Nolan Ryan's 5,000th strikeout on Aug. 22, 1989, and the Rangers' 30-run game on Aug. 22, 2007 in Baltimore. Of course, one of his best memories is calling the final out of Game 6 of the 2010 AL Championship Series win over the Yankees.

Nadel has won the Texas Sportscaster Award six times and is a two-time winner of the Associated Press award for best play-by-play in Texas.
Richard Durrett joined ESPNDallas.com in September 2009. He writes about colleges, the Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers. Richard spent nine years at The Dallas Morning News covering the Rangers, Stars, colleges, motorsports and high schools.
