ARLINGTON, Texas -- TV cameras caught manager Ron Washington laughing after Hall of Famer and Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan wasn't able to catch former president George W. Bush's ceremonial first pitch. The pitch went off Ryan's glove and to the screen behind him.

"He was trying to frame the pitch," said Washington, chuckling. "It was a passed ball."

Nolan Ryan is expected to talk to the media today and we'll see what he thinks.

Other notes:

* The ripple effect of Derek Holland's stellar 8 1/3 scoreless innings in Game 4 is that the Rangers' bullpen, used a lot in Game 3, got a break.

Neftali Feliz faced three batters and got the final two outs of Game 4. Mike Adams did warm up in the eighth in case he was needed should Holland have faltered.

But no one else in the bullpen had to throw, including Alexi Ogando. At one point, Ogando took his jacket off and walked around.

"He didn't throw," Washington said. "Maybe he was hot. He was just wandering."

* The Rangers will not work out on Tuesday in St. Louis on the off day before Game 6.

"Everybody could use a day at the hotel with their families," Washington said.

* There was no chance that Derek Holland was going to convince Washington to stay in the game. Once Washington left the dugout, he had made up his mind to go to Feliz.

* Washington said Adrian Beltre's play at third base to start the game was a "game changer."
