What does current rotation look like?

November, 22, 2011
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers continue to explore the free-agent and trade market for ways to improve the club, and that includes starting pitching. But after this week's signing of Joe Nathan, the Rangers have moved Neftali Feliz into the rotation. And general manager Jon Daniels said they are comfortable going forward if the rotation is as it stands now. So what is that rotation? Daniels listed the starters today:

Colby Lewis
Derek Holland
Matt Harrison
Alexi Ogando
Neftali Feliz

Daniels said Tuesday at the news conference for Nathan and on 103.3 FM ESPN with Ben & Skin that Wilson is in a good position to be highly paid after two solid seasons as a starter. The club wants him back, but they want to see what that market demands in terms of a long-term contract.

"It may be a deal where he comes back and says, 'I want to be in Texas' and it makes sense and we're able to work something out, and it may not," Daniels told Ben & Skin. "What we just didn't want to have happen is be in a situation where we either had to react and do something we weren't comfortable with -- with C.J. or with somebody else -- or we were put in a spot where if C.J. signed elsewhere we were scrambling and didn't like our options.

"Now we're in a spot where we can go, and we probably will go, with the five guys we have. But we're also open to improving."

Besides Wilson, Daniels even mentioned Mark Buehrle and alluded to the trade market as well. The club will explore all of those means to get better. But they aren't going to get into a position where if they don't sign Wilson, they aren't prepared to move forward. The Nathan signing gives them another arm in the rotation with big potential. And they'll continue to see what's out there.
