ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton said he recorded a message for Yu Darvish as part of a video the club put together for the Japanese pitcher.

Hamilton, who was on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM on Thursday before handing out the Rangers MVP Award to Michael Young at the club's award show in Arlington, said his message even included saying, "Welcome to Texas" in Japanese.

"I told him, 'If you come in, give us your best and we’ll definitely give you our best every day and at the same time, don’t take offense because we’re going to pick on you a lot -- it just means that we love you.'" Hamilton said.

The Rangers earned the chance to negotiate with Darvish after placing the highest posting bid at $52.7 million in December. They have until Wednesday at 4 p.m. central time to get a deal done or Darvish pitches in Japan in 2012 and the Rangers aren't owed the posting fee.

As part of the process, Darvish also visited the Arlington area earlier this month. While on a tour of the ballpark, he met some Rangers players, including Hamilton and Ian Kinsler.

"I talked to him a little bit, spoke to his father," Hamilton said. "He's a big guy, built and has good control of his pitches. Whether or not he eliminates two or three of those and focuses on two or three remains to be seen.

"Any time you get an oportuity to have a player come in, if they can help your team, you’re all for it."
