Reliever Mark Lowe agrees to one-year deal

1/17/2012

The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with right-handed reliever Mark Lowe on a one-year deal for $1.7 million plus incentives, avoiding arbitration.

The Rangers have six remaining arbitration cases, many of which could get done Tuesday before figures are exchanged. Those players are pitchers Mike Adams and Matt Harrison, catcher Mike Napoli, infielder Elvis Andrus, and outfielders Nelson Cruz and David Murphy.

Lowe was 2-3 with a 3.80 ERA and one save in 52 appearances with the Rangers last season as he spent all but two weeks of the season in the majors. He placed third on the club in appearances while recording 42 strikeouts in 45.0 innings. Lowe allowed just six of 32 inherited runners to score (18.8 percent), the ninth best percentage among American League relievers.
