Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington tried to do his best to make sure Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera didn’t beat Texas in the AL Championship Series. Now, in the three regular-season meetings and maybe the playoffs again, Washington and the Rangers must deal with Prince Fielder, too.

"I tell you what, they were a pretty good team last year and all they did was get better,” Washington said. "That goes to show you Detroit wants more than what they got last year. They lost [Victor] Martinez and replaced him with Prince. Now we’ll have to try go through him and Cabrera. It’s definitely a big challenge. We’ve got to do what we always do: Just play baseball and see what happens. He’s going to be a presence and make a difference in their lineup."

Washington said that if Cabrera shifts to third base, he expects him to do well.

"He’ll handle the hot corner," Washington said. "He’s a pro. He can play."
