Ron Washington gets 2-year extension

The Texas Rangers and manager Ron Washington have agreed to a two-year extension, putting the skipper under contract through 2014.

Washington was in the final year of his last extension, signed after the 2010 season.

Washington, who turns 60 in April, has helped lead the Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances and will manage the American League All-Star team for the second consecutive season in 2012.

He was hired prior to the 2007 season and his teams have imrpoved their win total every season, including a club-record 96 wins in 2011.
