David Murphy on his relationship with Josh Hamilton
Rangers outfielder David Murphy dishes on his offseason plans, playing cribbage with Josh Hamilton and much more.
On his relationship with Hamilton:
It's not the same all the time. During 2010 for example, Josh had just learned how to play cribbage, and he was big time into playing cribbage and we played almost every night. It differs from year to year. This year I don't think we hung out as much as we did in 2010. But I think that was partially because my wife had a baby in late February of last year and I was exhausted on road trips this year.
On the dip in his splits last season and his approach at the plate:
I understand, I mean I know what the numbers are, I've seen them ... not trying to do too much I mean I feel like that's my overall plan to begin with.
I feel like that's the reason why I struggle out of the gate is, you know, I'm so pumped. I'm so pumped once the season starts. It's like my effort level was so high that I'm trying to do way too instead of ... when I'm going good my approach is I'm going to go up there and take a nice, easy approach, hit a single up the middle and then if the guy hangs something or leaves a fastball up in the zone then I hit a double in the gap or maybe hit the ball out of the park. That needs to be my approach all the time, especially against lefties.
