Injuries: Michael Young in the lineup

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Michael Young will start at third base against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.

He suffered a sprained left thumb diving for a ball in the second inning against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Though he was fine, he left the game early as a precaution and was not in the lineup Thursday.

"He didn't have to talk much, but he said he wanted to get in there today," manager Ron Washington said.

Young is batting fifth in the lineup.

Other notes:

* Adrian Beltre will be the designed-hitter for the second straight game. He's expected to get the day off Saturday, then return to his normal duties at third base Sunday.

* Brad Hawpe will have a light batting session today after the team's batting practice session. Hawpe missed Thursday's B game due to a right hamstring injury .
