SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish threw during a bullpen session Friday. It was originally scheduled as a live batting practice session, but pitching coach Mike Maddux changed the schedule this morning.
Maddux said Thursday he wanted the starting pitchers to throw live batting practice in between their Cactus League starts. Darvish had a live batting practice session following his first start. He will not have one after his second start.
"Live batting practice is more taxing than what we did today, so this gives us two opportunities to get on the mound instead of one," Maddux said. "At the moment right now, I think that’s pretty good medicine."
Darvish was working on his delivery and implementing his full windup during the session. He will have another bullpen session Saturday in preparation for his third start Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
