SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Pitcher Yu Darvish worked on his delivery during his second consecutive bullpen session Saturday.
Bullpen coach Andy Hawkins said it was Darvish's idea to throw twice rather than just one live batting practice session. Darvish threw from the windup in both bullpen sessions -- something he hasn't felt comfortable with this spring.
"It’s his second day to use it and he looked pretty good," Hawkins said. "I think he feels pretty comfortable with it now."
He threw from the stretch in both Cactus League starts. With the work he has put this week, we could see Darvish throw form the windup during his third start Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
"Whatever he’s comfortable with is what matters," Hawkins said. "I think we saw a couple of games last year where he was throwing out of his stretch to start innings so it’s nothing new.
"I’ve always felt I had better stuff on my windup. That’s why starters do it a lot times."
Hawkins said Darvish looked smooth during the session. He located all of his off-speed pitches. Darvish also located the fastball better Saturday, which has been a concern for him.
After he finished his bullpen session, Darvish threw off the mound for a few minutes and worked on his conditioning.
