SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington had planned to start David Murphy against right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, but the outfielder called trainer Jamie Reed to tell him he was feeling ill.

The club thought it best that Murphy stay at home and rest. So that's why Craig Gentry is in left field with Josh Hamilton in center and Nelson Cruz in right.

Several Rangers have dealt with a virus while out in the desert, including catcher Yorvit Torrealba, who missed a couple of days earlier in camp.
