Rangers place Tateyama on disabled list
Tateyama went 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in eight spring training games.
"We'll just make sure he'll get his work and get healthy, and when we get close, we'll have a plan; I don't have a plan right now because you don't know where it's going to go," manager Ron Washington said Wednesday before his team's final exhibition game of the spring against the Frisco RoughRiders. "He came up with a back [injury], and we decided it was best we put him on the DL. His outings had nothing to do with anything. We believe in Tateyama and we trust Tateyama, and this is best for Tateyama and for the Rangers. That's why we went that route."
There were no surprises regarding the rest of the roster moves that were announced Wednesday, getting the opening day roster down to 25.
The club sent center fielder Julio Borbon, left-hander Neal Cotts and infielder Luis Hernandez to Triple-A Round Rock; purchased the contracts of left-hander Robbie Ross and infielder Alberto Gonzalez; and designated right-handed pitcher Cody Eppley for assignment.
