Pregame buzz: Ian Kinsler is the DH
Here's more:
*Just five games into the season, Kinsler is getting a break from playing in the field and will DH. Washington said it was mainly to give his legs a break. "Next it will be Elvis [Andrus] and then it will be [Adrian] Beltre, so I'm just trying to swing it, that's all," Washington said. "Give Michael [Young] some playing time. Ian's still on the field." Andrus will get the day off Thursday and Alberto Gonzalez will make his Rangers debut at short, Washington said.
*We'll have more on this later, but Mike Napoli is not in the lineup, not because of a concussion (he got hit in the left temple by a fastball Tuesday night) but because it's just time for Yorvit Torrealba to catch. Napoli said he's sore in the temple area but that he passed all his concussion tests. He's available to play tonight if necessary.
"He's still feeling the beating he took the first day from [Yu] Darvish," Washington said. "He's fine. If he had to play today, he'd play. It's luck of the draw I was going to play Yorvit today."
*After getting Tuesday off, Alexi Ogando is available to pitch tonight. Ogando has pitched 3 1/3 innings in three games this season and threw 19 pitches over 1 1/3 innings Monday. Washington said Mike Adams, who pitched in relief Tuesday night, would not be available Wednesday.
*It's early. Very early. But Adrian Beltre is hitting .300 with a .286 OBP in the early stages of the season. Beltre started the first two games 0-for-7 but has multi-hit games in three consecutive games with two extra base hits and four runs. "It's early. You can't really project anything yet, but so far it's pretty good and we're winning ball games," Beltre said. "I'm feeling OK. I could have better at-bats. The good thing is I'm not chasing a lot of bad pitches."
*Wednesday is Dollar Hot Dog night. Hot dogs (not the enormous one) at the ballpark are $1 and fans can purchase up to five hot dogs at one time. ... The national anthem will be performed by a group of students from the Keller Independent School District. ... One last thing about Tuesday night's 1-0 victory: It was just the 10th 1-0 game at Rangers Ballpark. The Rangers are 6-4 in such games, winning the last four. ... Rangers pitchers were playing NHL on Xbox. One matchup had the New York Rangers against the Nashville Predators. A PlayStation 3 boxing game was being set up at Joe Nathan's locker.
