In Yu Darvish's first two starts, the 25-year-old still hasn't been able to go six full innings. And that's because of a high pitch count.

PODCAST
Rangers LHP Derek Holland is live from Boston for his weekly segment. Dutch says the people who think Yu Darvish is already a bust are crazy and that Darvish just needs more time on the mound.

Listen Listen
Darvish, who has allowed seven runs (six earned) in 11 1/3 innings with 17 hits, eight walks and nine strikeouts, has thrown 212 pitches. He's gone just 5 2/3 innings each start.

Darvish is averaging 18.7 pitches per inning. That's the second most among starters in the American League, behind only Boston's Felix Doubront.

Matt Harrison has the most pitches per game for any Rangers starter, but he's averaging just 15.3 pitches per inning.

For Darvish to pitch deeper in games, he must get that pitch count under control. Look for that as he pitches against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.

BTW, Darvish is starting Thursday because the Rangers altered the rotation this week with the off day. They're keeping Darvish on normal rest and moving Matt Harrison to Friday. That way they can split up the lefties and keep Darvish on schedule.
