It's official: Pudge Rodriguez is retiring

DETROIT -- Catcher Ivan Rodriguez will retire as an active player on Monday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, the Rangers and Rodriguez announced today.

Rodriguez will hold a 2 p.m. news conference before Monday's game with the New York Yankees in the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame, which is where Yu Darvish was introduced back in January. Rodriguez is not expected to have any comment until Monday.

The Rangers will honor Rodriguez in an on-field ceremony at approximately 5:40 p.m. and the 21-year veteran will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 6:05 p.m. game. The game will be shown on ESPN nationally and on Fox Sports Southwest locally.
